The Words Their Way 2019 Homeschool Package is a K-5 literacy program that's based upon five developmental spelling stages: 

• Emergent-Early Letter Name Stage 
• Letter Name Stage
• Within Word Pattern Stage
• Syllables and Affixes Stage
• Derivational Relations Stage

Words Their Way will help you identify which developmental spelling stage your students are at, and get them started on word studies at a level that's right for them. Hands-on and online word sorts help teach phonics, spelling, and vocabulary for all five stages. In just 15-20 minutes a day, you can help develop and deepen key reading and writing skills by teaching students to explore, compare, and categorize word patterns and relationships - rather than simply memorizing how to spell words!

This kit contains 8 consumable word study notebooks (leveled by stage - some are stages split into 2 volumes) along with a teacher resource guide, implementation guide, and online access for 6 years to all five stages of work on the Pearson Realize digital platform. The eight word study notebooks contain hands-on sorts and practice activities; students cut out the sorting cards and use the sorting mats for word work. The online resources demonstrate the sort and allow students to practice online. The Teacher's Guide features easy-to-use lesson plans that include objectives, a list of materials needed for each lesson, a word bank, differentiated support & ELL ideas, and a fully scripted lesson with instructions for introducing new concepts, practice/extension time, and apply and assessment work. Books come packaged in a hard cardboard file holder for easy access and storage.

The simple weekly routine introduces and models the sort on Day 1. On Day 2, students practice the sort or pattern; on Day 3 they connect it to writing. On Day 4 they hunt for words and patterns in reading and on Day 5 they play engaging word sorting games.
